Heat Pump Rebate: Up to $10,000 Toward a Warmer, Cheaper Home
On October 8, 2026, the federal government announced a $2 billion heat pump rebate â up to $10,000 for below-median-income households and $2,000 for other eligible homeowners. The portal opens in early 2027, and pre-approval comes before you buy or install. Here is what to know now, so you don't miss a step.
Productivity Mega Deduction: What It Means for Your Year-End Purchases
The Productivity Mega Deduction would let businesses deduct 100% of eligible equipment costs in year one â but it is a proposal, not law yet. Here is what you can deduct today, and what to do before your year-end.
For more than 30 years, we have worked closely with clients. Our approach is personal and hands-on: we learn the full picture, explain the why and work with you and your family to ensure the best outcome for your familyâor your company.

Heat Pump Rebate: Up to $10,000 Toward a Warmer, Cheaper Home
ANNOUNCED â PORTAL NOT YET OPEN. The application portal is expected in early 2027. Get pre-approval BEFORE you buy or install â that step comes first.
Big news for homeowners. On October 8, 2026, the federal government announced a $2 billion plan to help up to 820,000 households switch to heat pumps â a rebate that could put up to $10,000 back in your pocket. If your furnace or heating system is getting old, this one is worth understanding now, before the portal opens.
What the rebate offers
Up to $10,000 for below-median-income households; $2,000 for other eligible homeowners. One rebate per person. It can be combined with provincial programs. No energy audit required. More than 100,000 eligible products. Approval targeted within 24 hours.
What to do now
Don't buy yet â pre-approval comes before purchase and installation. Watch for the portal in early 2027. And talk to us: we can help you think through the timing alongside your taxes.
Why this matters
Heat pumps cut energy costs and emissions, and they both heat and cool your home. If a replacement is already on your horizon, this rebate â stacked with a provincial program where one applies â can change the math in a big way. The key is the order: pre-approval first, then purchase and installation.

Productivity Mega Deduction: What It Means for Your Year-End Purchases
PROPOSAL â NOT LAW YET. Draft legislation released September 15, 2026. Nothing has been introduced in Parliament or passed. Status as of early October 2026.
Big news from Ottawa. On September 15, 2026, the federal government announced the Productivity Mega Deduction: a proposal that would let businesses deduct 100% of the cost of eligible new AND used equipment, machinery, technology, and vehicles in the very first year â permanently, with no expiry date. It would also raise the deduction on Canadian development expenses from 30% to 100%. In plain terms: buy a $100,000 piece of equipment, and â if the proposal becomes law â you could deduct the full $100,000 in year one instead of spreading it over several years. That is a major cash-flow win.
What you CAN deduct today
Already law: 100% first-year expensing for manufacturing & processing machinery and equipment, clean energy equipment, and zero-emission vehicles â for property acquired on or after January 1, 2025. This became law on March 26, 2026. It is real, usable, and on your 2026 return.
What is PROPOSED
Not law yet: the Productivity Mega Deduction itself â the broad, permanent 100% expensing for most new and used depreciable property, for property acquired on or after September 15, 2026, once enacted.
Why the September 15 date matters even now
If the proposal is enacted as drafted, the cutoff will be property acquired on or after that date. So your acquisition date needs to be documented precisely.
Year-end timing â 5 things to do before your fiscal year-end
âAvailable for useâ beats âordered.â The deduction is claimed in the year the property is delivered, installed, and actually usable â not the year you signed the quote. And the year that counts is your own fiscal year.
Document the acquisition date. Keep the invoice, delivery slip, and installation record together.
Used equipment counts under the proposal. There are limits; let's review it first.
You need income to use it. A deduction saves tax only against taxable income; it never turns a bad purchase into a good one.
Buy what the business needs. Never buy for the deduction alone.
From the annual return to the decisions that shape your company, every service is grounded in careful work, plain-language explanations and a long-term view.
We work hand in hand with directors and shareholders to minimize tax and maximize net profits â so you keep more of what your business earns. AJB has worked with every industry â from published authors to construction and real estate to children's education and medical.

Every year, more than 400 personal tax clients across Canada trust us with their returns. Our mission is simple: minimize your tax bill, maximize your refund, and keep things crystal clear.
Most accountants donât take the time. The time to compare your years, explain the why, and talk about next year. We do.
Especially the quick tax shops â theyâre just kids hired to enter the data, with no clue why your taxes went up.
âIt is what it isâ is not how we work. Every year, we compare your results so you can see exactly what went up, what went down, and why â and we talk with you about how to make next year better.

With over 30 years of experience preparing personal returns for rental-property owners, we know what can be missed in rental income and expenses, and we keep the records and filings clean.
With multiple properties or units, we often recommend incorporating â not just for the tax savings, but for liability protection. As a sole proprietor, every dollar of business income is taxed as personal income. In Quebec, the combined federal + provincial personal rate is 36.12% at $100,000 of taxable income â and about 47.46% once income passes $132,246.
Inside a small incorporated business, the first $500,000 of active business income is taxed at the combined small-business corporate rate â 12.2% in Quebec for calendar 2026.
That is a difference of 23.9 percentage points. On $100,000 left in the company, that is about $23,900 of tax that stays in the business instead of going to tax â money to reinvest, to grow, to hire.
And the payout comes later. In many cases much later â at retirement â when the money is drawn gradually, at lower income, with personal credits applying. So the case is in the now: pay the low corporate rate today, and deal with the personal side when the time is right.
Every rate on this page is the combined federal + provincial total. 36.12% = 17.12% federal (after Quebec's 16.5% abatement) + 19% Quebec. 12.2% = 9% federal + 3.2% Quebec.
Every business is different, and so is the right way to incorporate. We help you choose the structure that fits where you are â and where you're going.
Combined federal + provincial rates. Personal = marginal rate at $100,000 of taxable income. Small business = corporate rate on the first $500,000 of active business income. The gap is the tax that stays in the company when income is left inside it.
